Primiero - San Martino di Castrozza - Vanoi

The Primiero and Vanoi valleys, with the ski resort of San Martino di Castrozza, are located in the eastern part of Trentino region, in the southern Dolomites, bordering the province of Belluno.

Primiero (650 – 750 m. slm)

The Primiero valley is a large valley surrounded to the north by the Pale di San Martino mountain group, which includes six municipalities: Fiera di Primiero, Siror, Tonadico, Transacqua, Mezzano and Imèr, which are linked by spacious lawns and quiet streets, particularly rich in a old history.

Fiera di Primiero (which can be translated as Primiero’s Fair) owes its name to the fact that in the 15th century it was the exhibition and administrative centre of the whole valley. Fiera, which is located at the confluence of the river Cismon and Canali, has been founded by the Canòpi, miners of German origins.

Still today Palazzo delle Miniere is the historic icon of this period of time and of the importance Primiero had thanks to its copper, iron and silver mines. Today Fiera di Primiero is a pleasant summer holiday resort characterized by a soft atmosphere, many public walks and cheered by a series of events of all kinds. In winter the proximity to San Martino di Castrozza (km 14) makes it a starting point for skiing. In Fiera di Primiero there are also many souvenir shops, boutiques and meeting places.

Close to Fiera di Primiero there are enchanting valleys such as Val Canali, as well as fascinating places of Paneveggio Natural Park: starting points for walking tours and trips of the most beautiful sites in the Dolomites.

San Martino di Castrozza (1.450 metri slm)

Close to Fiera di Primiero (14 km) there is San Martino di Castrozza, one of the most famous summer and ski resort of the Dolomites. San Martino became famous thanks to the pioneers of mountain climbing in the early nineteenth century. It has always been a tourist resort, frequented by noblemen and artists who drew inspiration from its landscapes.

San Martino takes its origin from a religious institution, St.Martin and St. Julian’s Hospice, who welcomed the travellers crossing the Rolle Pass and heading to Primiero. San Martino di Castrozza is located in a green and fascinating valley at the foot of the famous Pale di San Martino mountains, surrounded by Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino.

The unique landscape will leave you breathless: the Cimon della Pala, the Vezzana, Rosetta, the Sass Maor, Val di Roda, Madonna and Colbricon are parts of this resort.

In winter, San Martino di Castrozza offers several opportunities for people who love winter sports; while in summer there are several facilities and opportunities for sports and recreational activities both for adults and children. You will always find a rich program of activities and events of all kinds.

Vanoi (700-1.000 metri slm)

The Valle del Vanoi is a valley that covers a vast area of 125 kilometres squared. It is characterised mostly by fir-trees forests.

More than one hundred of the mountain peaks are higher than 2000 meters, and these mountains dominate the green slopes dotted by villages, vast pastures, forests, lakes, streams and farms scattered throughout the area.

The mountain chain of Lagorai and Cima d'Asta offer a fascinating landscape and sightseeing. This huge area, part of the natural park, is still virgin land- untouched by man . The municipality of Canal San Bovo, located at the beginning of the valley,is made up of several small villages such as Prado, Ciconia, Zortea, Caoria, Ronco, Cainari and Gobbera.
